I love my XM radio and almost never listen to terrestrial radio. The only frustration is that in my Prius when changing channels, sometimes the sound just goes away. Hitting the power off button, changing to a different mode like AM or FM, etc., had no effect. The only way to get the sound back was to turn off the car and turn it back on – a full power cycle. This can be problematic when on the highway and I never see this happen on my other radio. I last did a google search on the issue a couple of years ago and could find nothing.
I bring the car in for routine service every 5000 miles, and I’ve mentioned the issue several times. The guys at Capitol Toyota had never heard of a problem like I describe. It hadn’t happened lately but when it does I get really annoyed.
Well, I lost sound yesterday on the way home from work. Today I did another google search, and the google came to the rescue with some good search suggestions. I found a Toyota service bulletin – T-SB-0271-09 “XM Satellite Radio Inoperative Until Ignition Key Is Cycled” – that appears to match my problems.
Next step, call Capitol Toyota and have them replace the radio.
